Food Charities

Why Car Donations Are Preferred by Charity Organizations Above Most Contributions
There is a reason why most Charity Groups suggest that people make a car donation instead of the usual canned food and supplies packages. This is because the donation of vehicles can raise more funds that will help the organization grow and do more for their target communities.
Compared to food donations, which are perishable and good for one use only, vehicle donations can provide so much more help for charity groups. When A Charity sells a used car, they will get cash; with this boost in funds, the group is enabled to do more for their cause – essential supplies can be purchased, educational programs can be conducted, and more food can be bought.
Compared to cash, on the other hand, the donor won’t feel the expense as much, if the car isn’t being used very often, or has already purchased a replacement for it.
When a car donation is made, charity organizations are enabled to act, making them even more effective in promoting their ideals and setting an example for others to follow. As long as they are funded, they can keep doing what they do best while their target communities flourish with them.
In addition, a car that may be sitting in the garage, not used very often, or not properly maintained, will go to a new owner, who will take care of it and give it a new lease on life.
With the extra hand from car donations, any charity group can stand strong and provide the help that they can give, fulfilling their mission of creating a better world for everyone.

Bauwerk In Thailand $35.1 Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Bang Kwang Central Prison (Thai: ) is a men’s prison in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand, located at the Chao Phraya River about 7 miles north of Bangkok. The prison houses many foreign prisoners. It is a harsh prison which handles death row and long-sentence prisoners. All prisoners are required to wear leg irons for the first three months of their sentences. Death row inmates have their leg irons permanently welded on. In the book The Damage Done former prisoner Warren Fellows recounts that the prison was nicknamed “Big Tiger” by the Thais because it “prowled and ate”. Paul Hayward served part of his sentence here. Prisoners receive one bowl of rice* in vegetable soup each day. Other food must be purchased from the prison canteen. The prison works on a chit system. Each prisoner has an account with the canteen. Poor prisoners do chores for wealthier prisoners and prison guards to earn money for food. Some British and Lebanese prisoners receive extra money per month from charities. The British Embassy also provides food and vitamins for their prisoners. Prisoners are provided with cooking facilities and gas for the stoves is provided by the prison. The prison is featured in the popular simulation game Mafia Wars: Bangkok, as one of the jobs under the Criminal tier (Pay Off The Guards At Bangkwang Prison) where one has to choose between the Triad and the Yakuza factions. In the episode “Great Space Roaster” from American Dad!, Roger is placed by Stan in Bang Kwang. His prison cell is placed deep underwater and surrounded by mines. Breastfeeding Advocacy: Nestl Boycott, Breastfeeding in Public, Mom’s Breastaurant, Lactivism $8.78 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Nestlé boycott is a boycott launched on July 4, 1977, in the United States against the Swiss based Nestlé corporation. It spread quickly throughout the United States, and expanded into Europe in the early 1980s. It was prompted by concern about the company’s marketing of breast milk substitutes (infant formula), particularly in less economically developed countries (LEDCs), which campaigners claim contributes to the unnecessary death and suffering of babies, largely among the poor. Among the campaigners, Professor Derek Jelliffe and his wife Patrice, who had contributed to establish the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), were particularly instrumental in helping to coordinate the boycott and giving it ample visibility throughout the world. Groups such as the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN), and Save the Children claim that the promotion of infant formula over breast-feeding has led to health problems and deaths among infants in less economically developed countries. There are four problems that can arise when poor mothers in developing countries switch to formula: Advocacy groups and charities have accused Nestlé of unethical methods of promoting infant formula over breast-milk to poor mothers in developing countries. For example, IBFAN claim that Nestlé supports the distribution of free powdered formula samples to hospitals and maternity wards; after leaving the hospital, the formula is no longer free, but because the supplementation has interfered with lactation the family must continue to buy the formula. IBFAN also allege that Nestlé uses “humanitarian aid” to create markets, does not label its products in a language appropriate to the country where they are sold, and offers gifts and sponsorship to |

Cooking Club: Great Ideas and Delicious Recipes for Fabulous Get-Togethers $0.99 One of the hottest trends to sweep the country in the past decade is the growth of supper clubs and other forms of cooking groups. The combination of socializing while cooking together or eating dishes made prior to meeting up has become a much-loved pastime for participants in thousands of clubs around the country. This book is a fantastic resource to starting one’s own club, and for generating theme nights for club meetings. Also included are profiles of 12 different clubs from around the country, including a vegan potluck, a wine pairing group, an adventurous eating club (think Fear Factor-style dishes), and a group who uses their meetings to raise money for local charities. Following the Introduction, “Guidelines to Starting and Maintaining a Successful Cooking Club” contains such information as how to recruit members; determining who performs what roles for club meetings (Does the host prepare all the dishes? Does everyone cook together in one kitchen? Do members cook from home and bring dishes to the club?); how often a group should meet (Once a month? Every other month?); and how to determine budgets for each meal. Twelve themed menus, from comfort food to grilling to Italian night, are presented throughout, each menu containing eight courses, all of which can be prepared early and can easily be transported to a designated meeting place. Together these menus constitute a full year’s worth of monthly ideas safe for any cooking club. Accompanying each menu are tips to decorate and ways to make each evening’s theme stand out. The book is written by Dina Guillen and Michelle Lowrey (The Plank Grilling Cookbook), two members of the 8-year-old, Sacramento-based Kitchen Table Cooking Club, which has been featured in Cooking Light magazine. |

Hmong in Minnesota $13.95 Minnesota has always been a land of immigrants. Successive waves have each made their own way, found their place, and made it their home. The Hmong are one of the most recent immigrant groups, and their remarkable and moving story is told in Hmong in Minnesota. Chia Youyee Vang reveals the colorful, intricate history of Hmong Minnesotans, many of whom were forced to flee their homeland of Laos when the communists seized power during the Vietnam War. Having assisted U.S. troops in the “Secret War,” Hmong soldiers and civilians were eligible to settle in the United States. Vang offers a unique window into the lives of the Minnesota Hmong through the stories of individuals who represent the experiences of many. One voice is that of Mao Heu Thao, one of the first refugees to come to Minnesota, sponsored by Catholic Charities in 1976. She tells of the unexpectedly cold weather, the strange food, and the kindness of her hosts. By introducing readers to the immigrants themselves, Hmong in Minnesota conveys a population’s struggle to adjust to new environments, build communities, maintain cultural practices, and make its mark on government policies and programs.   Chia Youyee Vang was born in Laos and as a child escaped with her family to the United States. An assistant professor of history at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, she specializes in the study of Hmong community-building efforts. |
